March 2013

From the 10th to the 18th of March 2013, an official delegation from the Mongolian government came to Colombia and Peru to get information on policies and strategies on formalization of Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) of these countries. The Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM) facilitated the visit in collaboration with the Sustainable Artisanal Mining (SAM) SDC project, Red Social and SONAMIPE, and shared its experience on working for sustainable development of the sector, among other initiatives through the FAIRMINED certification system.

The Mongolian delegation met with the ministries of mines, Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) leaders, experts and regional governments, and went to visit two Peruvian mining communities.

“We are very satisfied with our study tour in Colombia and Peru where we had good opportunities to receive information on ASM formalization from first hand, to see mining sites and to share views on different issues on ASM,” said National Project Director of SAM Mongolia, Urjinlhundev Perenlei, upon his return to Mongolia.
