ASM progress app is the new online platform of the Alliance for Responsible Mining. It is an innovative proposal with a double purpose: to allow actors and allies of the mineral chain supply to have access to reliable, traceable, and transparent information; as well as to facilitate diagnosis, creation, and monitoring of the ASM sustainability route that can lead to the creation of a community around the use of the app.
For those actors certain about being part of the ASM’s positive change, it is complex to have access to a tool that has a clear framework on the ASM development and enables the collection of reliable, up-to-date data on the development of artisanal and small-scale mining activities, and make a contribution to their improvement.
Facing this necessity, The Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM), takes the first step to create this digital tool, in association with BetterChain. This platform offers a clear development framework for that sector, providing an assessment of its transformations.
ASM Progress app grants access to the following information:
- Data profile and features of each mining Company
- Compliance with Due Diligence Criteria
- Good Practices within the CRAFT Code and the Fairmined Standard
- Specialized environmental aspects for the protection of forests, including the Forest-Smart Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Bolt-on Standard
- Risk analysis spreadsheet of the territory where the mining organization is located
The stakeholders can also see the progress of mining organization in aspects of legitimacy, environment, mercury, social, organizational, traceability, health and safety, labor, gender, and commercialization conditions.
Technology at the service of responsible mining
This innovation joins ARM expertise with worldwide ASM, and BetterChain technological support and experience in innovation and due diligence. MAPE progress app aims to connect the different mining organization committed to improve their practices with the different stakeholders such as donors, buyers, and allies. Additionally, this tool can be adapted to the different needs of other NGOs and organizations.
The goal of MAPE progress app is the visualization of better practices and improvement opportunities of the sector; access to reliable information on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) indicators; generation of confidence and protection of Human Rights and ecosystem preservation; inclusion of ASM in the market, and development opportunities to the sector.

Application of ASM Progress app
These first steps of digital transformation aiming to make an impact and development are being taken and possible thanks to the projects Promoting Human Rights in Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining in Burkina Faso – ProDHuMAPE, and Sanu Kura: Support for the Creation of A Legal Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining (ASM) Activity in Burkina Faso.
Additionally, we have a wonderful opportunity that will lead us to the protection of the Amazon through a legitimate, committed ASM, by using the app in Peru, Guyana, and Suriname, thanks to the challenge Accelerating Innovation for Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining in the Amazon. But that is just a start… We want the app to reach all the countries and be used to empower ASM, and become active subjects of protection of the Amazon.
