Due to the termination of the partnership between Alliance for Responsible Mining ARM and Fairtrade International FLO, the Board of Directors of ARM approved the recommendation of the FAIRMINED Standard Committee to include the following modifications in the FAIRMINED Standard:

  • Artisanal and Small-scale Mining Organizations (ASMOs) certified under Section A of the Fairtrade and Fairmined Standard (Preceding version 1.1) are now able to sell their gold as FAIRMINED (all conditions of Section B of the Standard apply)
  • Sales of un-labeled consumer products are allowed, provided that the claims reflect the precise circumstances of use, thus ensuring that consumers and other businesses receive truthful information.  The claims have to be approved individually by ARM.

The modified STANDARD v.1.1 is valid from 1st May 2013. This update is a transitional measure, while the new FAIRMINED Standard is in its final stage of the review process, scheduled to be finalized by September/October 2013 after a second round of public consultation which will take place in June 2013.
