Between 27th and 29th of July, the capital of Chocó department Quibdó will host the First Forum on Mining in the Colombian Pacific Region.
 
The main objectives of the Forum include: 
– carrying out a comprehensive diagnosis of the mining issues currently occurring in the Colombian Pacific region
– identifying guidelines on influencing public policy for mining development in this eco-region
– agreeing on the definition of management processes and control of mining development, so that it contributes to socio-environmental sustainability, welfare and economic growth in the Colombian Pacific.
 
ARM will be represented by three Board Members: 
– Laura Barreto will speak about the experiences of the Canadian Indigenous People with the Impacts and Benefits methodology
– Manual Reinoso will talk about the public policy advocacy and the participation of Peruvian miners in creating a legislation specifically addressing Artisanal Mining sector
– Cristina Echavarría will present the challenges and opportunities of Fairtrade and Fairmined certification system within the global context of socially and environmentally responsible mining.
