Lima, Jul. 03 (ANDINA). Peru’s Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) and the World Jewellery Confederation (CIBJO) signed Friday a multilateral cooperation agreement to train Peruvian jewellers with an investment of US$ 6.2 million.
The document was also signed by the Peruvian Exporters’ Association (Adex) and the National Service of Occupational Training in Industry (Senati).
The agreement creates a new program called Fortalecimiento de Capacidades de la Joyería Artesanal en el marco de la Responsabilidad Social y Comercio Justo, an initiative which seeks to significantly improve the skills and capacities of 12,000 Peruvian artisans with a focus on social responsibility and fair trade principles.
According to Mincetur, it is expected that the program will take at least three years and will be implemented in five peruvian regions, namely Arequipa, Cajamarca, Cusco, Lima and Piura.
CIBJO’s purpose is to encourage harmonization, promote international cooperation in the jewellery industry, and to consider issues which concern the trade worldwide as well as protect consumer confidence in the industry.
