Implementation Plan of Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) Strategy, as part of the Mining and Gas Technical Assistance Project, Mozambique (MAGTAP).

Objective :
Operationalize the Government ASM development strategy in the country.
Beneficiaries:
- Artisanal miners from 4 pilot cooperatives (2 of clay and clay products making in Inhambane, 1 of gemstones in Zambezia, 1 of gold in Tete)
- Government officers from the national mining and geology department (DNGM) and from the targeted provinces
Activities:
- Support to the formalization process and implementation of good mining practices in three pilot areas through the adapted support of four ASM cooperatives
- Ongoing capacity building of government officials through the involvement of the implementation of extension services delivered by the project team
- Development of recommendations for extension services systems following the project implementation
Results 2022:
- 4 small-scale mining organizations converted into cooperatives and accompanied legal, cadastral, organizational, financial, commercial, technical, environmental, and social issues.
- 13 technical field missions to train officials.
- 13 operational sheets were produced for replication and 9 training modules were created.
- 1 exhaustive document of recommendations to deploy ASM formalization strategy in the country.
