The second session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to prepare a global legally binding instrument on Mercury (INC2) was held in Chiba, Japan from 24 to 28 January, 2011
ARM was present at this event to lobby for the view of ASM miners to be taken into account in this important discussion. The petition supporting the ASGM Mercury Reduction Declaration was handed to the organizers of the meeting.
Dr. Laura Barreto, the Chair of the Board of ARM, gave a presentation at the Technical Briefing before the main event to visibilise to talk about Fairtrade and Fairmined as one of the possible ways forward for responsible ASM. The presentation and the speaking points are available for download.
