On October 5, the first virtual session was held in the context of ancestral mining, which is part of the first cycle on mining in ethnic territories as an approach to collective rights.
Mining in ethnic territories is a matter in which ancestral practices, territorial rights, economic interests, environmental protection, territorial ordering, human rights, among other issues converge, and, therefore, it is not free of controversies and debates. An example of this are the tensions around the full and transparent implementation of the Consultation and the Prior, Free and Informed Consent when authorizing mining projects (national and international) in ethnic territories and the current lack of an adequate legal and institutional framework, product of an authentic intercultural dialogue, for the use and exploitation of minerals by ethnic groups.
The first session was broadcast via YouTube; another 4 sessions of this first cycle will be broadcast on the official channel of WWF Colombia for the general public who want to know about the themes and experiences around ancestral mining that will be addressed by experts from the participating organizations.

The virtual event “Cycles of intercultural dialogue in the mining context”, organized by the Alliance for Responsible Mining in collaboration with WWF Colombia, National Forum for Colombia Central Region Chapter, the Dialogue Group on Mining in Colombia and with
the support of Ford Foundation will be developed in a total of 18 virtual sessions, one weekly, and will bring together leaders, women leaders, students, and public officials who work on mining issues in Colombia with special emphasis on ethnic territories.
The rest of the sessions that will not be transmitted by YouTube will be carried out via Zoom for the people previously registered.
