Strengthening management competencies of women miners

Date: 2017

Country: Colombia: department of Antioquia, Bajo Cauca (El Bagre y Zaragoza)

Donor: Fundación Ayuda

Mission

ARM received support of Fundación Ayuda to strengthen the capacities of women in artisanal and small-scale mining organizations regarding the management, monitoring and evaluation of socio-economic projects in mining regions.

Key achievements

An extensive contextual analysis was carried out in 8 districts of Bajo Cauca to identify the beneficiaries of the project. Through this exercise it was possible to collect information about the interest of women in receiving support in terms of formulation, management, monitoring and evaluation of productive projects.

ARM is currently working with 3 groups of women from different villages:

  • Asociación de Mujeres Gestoras y Ahorradoras de El Bagre (ASOMGABA)- municipality of Las Sardinas in El Bagre
  • Asociación multiactiva de Puerto Jobo (ASMUBA) – municipality of Puerto Jobo in Zaragoza
  • A group of non-associated women – municipality San Antonio in Zaragoza.

Throughout the modules, women are identifying their needs and opportunities to start their business. In each workshop, inputs are collected for the step-by-step construction and formulation of their productive project. This is done through basic tools that allow the participation of all women according to their aspirations.
