Yves, together with Eva Marion, is the co-founder of the consulting company Novasud (based in France) that specializes in the SME sector and artisanal mining. He joined ARM’s team to contribute with his field work experience and with Artisanal Mining in Africa. With a Ph.D. in Geosciences from the University of Paris-Sud, he has coordinated and managed several long-term projects, including in Madagascar and Senegal. He has worked over 12 years with training, technical assistance, health, safety and environmental issues in Artisanal and Small-scale Mining in many countries in both Francophone and Anglophone Africa, but he also has experience in Asia. Furthermore, he has written many booklets and educational materials and he is interested in the integration of the artisanal sector in the development of public policies and strategies for development of the mining sector in developing countries. In the recent years, his work has been focused on the traceability issues with the implementation of audit in the mineral and gold industry value chain in the Great Lakes region of Africa.
Marcin has coordinated different Latin American and African projects in ARM since September 2010. Following a longstanding interest in sustainable and culturally sensitive community development, Marcin´s adventure with responsible artisanal mining started from his involvement with ARM´s producer support organization in Colombia, AMICHOCÓ, where he coordinated a Committee for a Responsible Management of Mining Resource in the Chocó Bioregion. His professional background includes various roles in the social housing sector in England ranging from administration and communication to development projects management. His degree in Economics and MA in International Relations are complemented by courses in Project Management and Renewable Energy. Apart from his native Polish language he speaks English, Spanish and Portuguese and communicates in French.
Administrative and Financial manager
Santiago is a Public Accountant specializing in Financial Management. Santiago had worked with ARM in Financial Accounting since the organization was established in 2004, and joined the ARM team full-time in February 2013. Before joining ARM, he worked for Amichocó, the Oro Verde Corporation and Biodiversa as an Administrator and Accountant from 2005-2013. He has also worked in accounting, fiscal management and cost management with flower growing companies.
Accounting and administration
Triana is a public accountant and has a degree in Human Resources. She has worked for companies in the commercial and industrial sector and joined ARM from January 2014 to support the administrative unit. This is the first time for her working in development and feels motivated about social work and the sustainability of ASM. She describes herself as a committed, responsible and collaborative person.
Jerlin worked for the Foundation Amigos del Chocó since its establishment in 1997, and was a Liaison Coordinator for Oro Verde Program and worked for the Foundation Biodiversa in the commercial area in charge of logistics related to buying and selling precious metals. He joined the ARM team full time since February 2014 as an administrative assistant, and since the beginning of ARM he was supporting the administrative area.
Head of Fundraising and Partnerships
With a master's degree in management and international development and a specialization in industrial development and evaluation of projects made in France, Geraud has over 7 years working in international cooperation. He has worked in Spain, France, Burundi and Colombia with different organizations (Oxfam, Agronomists and Veterinarians Without Borders, Comfenalco Antioquia, among others) in the creation and management of national and international alliances, the formulation and monitoring of media projects for sustainable livelihoods, women's rights, citizen participation and access to employment especially for people affected by armed conflicts. Geraud has a great interest in being able to contribute through his work to the social, economic and environmental justice needed to improve the quality of life of small producers in the world. He speaks French, Spanish and English.
Head of Marketing and Communications
Conny´s formation and career has allowed her to develop skills in economics, consulting, trade and development. Before starting as a Consultant for ARM´s Fairmined Business Unit she gained experience in very different working environments, from small business start-ups to multinational corporations. When at last working for another ethical trade initiative as a Key Account and Product Manager, her personal desire to contribute to a fairer and more sustainable world with her skills was formed. Conny graduated in Marketing & Sales and at the moment is doing her postgraduate studies in Sustainable Development with the University of London. Apart from her native language German she speaks English and Spanish.
Communications and Press
Patricia holds a Master in International Business from Paris-Est University in France. Before working as a consultant for the Alliance for Responsible Mining, she worked in communications, advertisement and marketing She also did volunteer work in NGOs because she is passionate about the development of Latin America and she believes that everyone can contribute some way to achieve better conditions for everyone. In the Alliance for Responsible Mining, she works with communications and press. She speaks Spanish, English and French.
Press and Communication Analyst
Tiffany has a background in Management of International projects. She studied in France and in Canada, and started her career in Business Management in France. After two years, she decided to move to Medellin, Colombia, to begin new personal and professional projects. She worked for an eco-tourism travel agency as a communication coordinator before to join the team of ARM in 2016. She is working as Press and Communication Analyst.
Head of Fairmined Business Development
Kenny is a motivated believer in the solidarity economy and the importance of taking responsibilities for ones actions, a core set of values that is in line with the views of ARM in bringing standards, responsibility and formalizations to the ASM sector. His educational background is in International Development and Business. He has a multifaceted relationship with social economics, having been an advocate, researcher, organizer, and social entrepreneur and is now happy to be working with artisanal small scale miners to bring the benefits of the ethical trade movement to the mining sector. Standards and Certification Officer
Natalia is passionate about economics and development, her greatest wish is to learn and improve every day, contributing with her work to build a better society. She is an Economist from University of Antioquia, and has previously participated as a researcher in various projects. Her last experience was as coordinator in a project to build production profiles in the municipalities affected by violence in Colombia. She works as an analyst, a position that she enjoys, because with her work she can contribute to the strengthening of artisanal miners. She describes herself as a person committed to excellence and achievement of high results, analytical skills, observation and dedication.
Coordination of Mining Services
Natalia is an economist with studies in local development and environmental economics. Since 2009, she has worked in the field of small scale gold mining in Colombia in various international cooperation projects, working directly with mining communities. Prior to joining the ARM, she worked for a year as a consultant for new initiatives in Colombia in the Foundation Amigos del Chocó. Natalia also works as a teacher.
Local Liaison in Peru
Javier's work experience has essentially developed in the field of Mining and Business Law. He loves field work, and with his activities he has made multiple visits to mining centers located throughout the Department of Arequipa where artisanal and small-scale mining is common, providing legal advice for the formalization process of mining in Peru. Committed to the mining sector, Javier wants to make a substantial change in the reality of the workers engaged in artisanal and small-Scale mining.
Project Coordinator, West Africa
Eva is an environmental specialist in the mining sector. She holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of Paris VI, and she is trained as an auditor in the ISO 14001 environmental standard. Éva is co-founder of the consulting company Novasud, and is responsible for the development of the environmental area and external relations. Her interests include environmental best practices, the role of women in mining communities and the changing perceptions of the artisanal sector in African communities. She joined ARM to contribute with her knowledge in project coordination and the development of partnerships with other entities and similar projects.
Monitor and Evaluation BID Project
Baptiste holds a degree in Political Science and a Masters in Latin American Studies obtained in France. He has a strong interest in the issues of sustainable local development through global solutions, such as fair-trade, particularly in Latin America. After a few experiences in an association of small producers of bananas of fair trade in Ecuador and the implementation of a project to rescue the traditional cuisine in Medellin, Baptiste went to work with ARM as a volunteer in public policy analysis from Francophone Africa in October 2014. In February 2015, he began to work as a local liaison for ARM in Senegal for the project UNIDO in West Africa and where he can be find "africaning".
Project Coordinator - SOMOS TESORO
Ander has a degree in sociology and a Masters in International Cooperation for Development and graduate studies in Human Rights. He has worked for the United Nations Programme for Development (UNDP), in a consulting firm for social projects, in NGOs and as consultant in cooperation projects operated by organizations such as UNDP and EuropeAid. He has experience working on projects for Comprehensive Action against Antipersonnel Mines (AICMA), in educational projects and programs for the use of ICT for development. In addition, he is a volunteer and editor of the blog team international relations United Explanations.
Expert en mining, security and health - SOMOS TESORO
Jairo is a mining engineer with studies related to safety, occupational health and management systems. He has over 8 years of experience in the mining sector in Colombia, participating in operational processes of coal, iron and gold mining companies. He is a person committed to work, dedicated and with a collaborative spirit.
Local coordinator, Boyaca - SOMOS TESORO
Cesar has studies as a technician and technologist, and mining engineering and a specialization in occupational health and prevention of occupational hazards, with 12 years of experience in the mining industry (production, environmental and security) in the exploitation of coal in Boyacá. He has worked in production companies to exploit minerals, in mining audit, and also as university teacher and member of research groups. Cesar works with ARM since January 2014 as Local Coordinator in Boyaca.
Elizabeth works with ARM since March 2014, and has a degree in political science from the National University of Colombia. She has participated in research projects related to public administration and political theory from the Group of Studies of Political Science and Public Administration which she joined in 2012.
Supply Chain Analyst
María José is a person passionate about issues such as environmental conservation, human rights, gender equity, public participation as well as implementation and improvement of good practices in the mining sector; she enjoys teamwork with people from different cultures and feels very motivated to contribute to the sustainability of the positive changes in mining communities. International Business Professional, currently on a Master’s Degree on Social Responsibility and Sustainability from the University Externado of Colombia. She came to ARM to support small miners with her work and dedication in the aspects of trading and potential buyers relationship issues.
Technical Information Manager
Alejandro is a Management Engineer from the National University of Colombia, also he took a course in Project Management. Before to joining the ARM’s team, he worked in the Government of Antioquia for 2 years, in the Private Office and the Educational Department where he was responsible to collect, organize and analyze information from the most strategic initiatives and then communicate it effectively to do easier the process of take decisions. In addition, Alejandro is very interested in the social component that must be included in all projects and he feels that since ARM is possible to improve the socioeconomic status of people related to mining around the world. He is a person with analytical and teamwork skills and focused on getting new knowledge.
Monitoring and Evaluation Support
Laura is metallurgy and mines engineer of Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She is interested in topics related to gold mining specially the development of artisanal and small-scale mining. She feels encouraged for the ARM´s labor. She is a proactive person, she has team work skills and continuous learning disposition.
Partnerships and New Initiatives Executive
She holds a degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in management of project development with a specialization in Latin America, obtained from the Sorbonne- Paris. She also studied in the University of Cuyo in Mendoza (Argentina) for one year and volunteered in Bolivia within a local NGO. Last year, she got the opportunity to work for the Área Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá in the planning department, to participate in the formalization of a metropolitan network within the American continent. She discovered the issue of sustainable mining later on, when she worked for a consulting company for which she collaborated on the evaluation of the program Engineers Without Borders in France. Currently, she is supporting the partnerships and new initiatives department of the organization. Apart from her native language French, she can speak fluent English and Spanish
